Use & Care
Use & Care
Linen typically shrinks 3–10% during the first wash. Follow these steps to maintain or restore your curtain length.
How to Fix Shrunken Curtains
- Damp Stretching: Gently pull panels back to their original length while the fabric is still damp.
- Steam/Iron: Use a garment steamer or steam iron on medium heat while pulling the fabric vertically.
- Soak & Stretch: Submerge in lukewarm water for 15 minutes, then gently stretch the edges while wet.
- Block Stretching: Lay damp curtains flat, pull to the desired shape, and pin down until dry.
How to Prevent Shrinkage
- Wash Cold: Always use cold water; heat is the primary cause of shrinkage.
- Gentle Cycle: Avoid high-agitation settings.
- Air Dry Only: Never use a dryer. Hang curtains to air dry to preserve the fibers.
- Buy Pre-washed: Opt for pre-shrunk linen to minimize initial size changes.
Quick Fixes for Lost Length
- Adjust Hardware: Lower your curtain rod to compensate for the shorter length.
- Add Length: Use iron-on hem tape to add a decorative trim or sew on new fabric tabs at the top.
