How to Measure for Custom Shades

Tip: Always use a metal tape measure for better accuracy, and follow this guide to get your measurements right.
Measuring Inside Mount Shade
People normally make mistakes by measuring the window only at one point. Always take your measurements at three points and use the smallest number.
- Inside-mount width: Measure the exact distance between the inside of the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest width to ensure a proper fit. We deduct 1/4" from your ordered width for inside-mount shades.
- Inside-mount height: Measure the exact distance from the top inside of the window to the sill, and use the shortest length.
If you prefer the shade not to touch the sill, deduct 1/4" from your ordered length. If there is no sill, measure the height to the point where you want the shade to reach.
To install the shade flush with the window frame, a minimum window depth of 2 3/4" is necessary.
Measuring Outside Mount Shade
Measure across the window width, adding an extra 4-6" to the total width to allow 2-3" overlap on each side of the window to block out light effectively.
Decide where you want the bottom of your shade to end, and measure the length of the window from the top of the fitting to this point.
